A simple start to the course. Keep your drive to the right off the tee and don’t miss the green left, or you’ll need to be a short game genius to save your par.

A tough par 4 that requires you must hit the fairway, otherwise the uphill second shot will be very difficult. It’s always best to hit an extra club for your approach to a heavily contoured green.

A reachable par five that’s ideal for someone who draws the ball. Long hitters should go left of the tree in the middle of the fairway, as this will shorten your second shot considerably. If you can reach the large green, beware the water just to the right of it.

A short dogleg par 4 that’s protected by trees left, and a small river right. If you find the fairway, be precise with your approach shot, as this green is deceptively sloped and it’s not unknown for people to putt off it.

A tree lined par 4, with a fairway that cambers to the right, a large flat green that has no bunkers, but a steep drop off to the right if you push your shot to the green. Straightforward, but a tough par 4.

Index 1 - our toughest hole is lined on both sides by trees, and requires a long second shot to a small green, that while it has no bunkers is extremely difficult to up and down if you don’t hit it. A par four here is cause for celebration.

Medium length par 4, that again requires you find the fairway, to leave a second shot to a well protected green, that slopes gently from front to back.

A short par 3 of just over 130 yards. It's better to be slightly long, rather than short, as there’s a substantial step on the front third.

A straight uphill par 4, with bunkers left and trees right. A decent drive should leave a second shot from the fairway (that will need an extra club), to a green slightly above you, Most mistakes here are leaving it short.

Perhaps Shandon’s signature hole. A raised tee looks down on a par 3 green over a deep river; with sweeping views over Greater Belfast and Samson and Goliath. This hole can play anything from a wedge to a seven iron. It’s a beautiful sight to see your ball fly high to the centre of this small bunkered green.

A par 5 that’s protected by a river on the right and trees on the left. Longer hitters who can carry the slope on the fairway, can go for the narrow entrance to the green in two, but a shot pulled left will lead to a bogey or worse.

A short but intimidating par four that looks far tighter than it really is. A well struck tee shot will leave a short iron to a bunkered green, that slopes hard from left to right. Two putts here is a great result.

An excellent par three that will require anything from a mid iron to a hybrid. Your tee shot is hit from a height to a green with bunkers left, right and short. Once you’re on the green, the mostly flat surface gives an opportunity for birdies. But miss the green right, and bogey will be hard to find.

A dogleg right par four, with a partially blind tee shot, will test your nerve as there are trees left and right, with OB right just to add to the fun. Find the fairway and your second shot to a green, that has a steep drop on the left and a slope short and left, is tricky before you take into account OB right and long. Overall a great par 4.

Our final par 3 is a cracker, a long iron or fairway wood needs to be hit well across a valley to a protected green that, depending on where the flag is, can lead to terrifying putts. Don’t give any putts on this green!

A straight par 4, with water all the way up the left, and while there’s room right, go too far and there are trees that will swallow your ball. The second shot will test your long iron play, to a green that gently slopes from back to front. Hitting this green in two is an achievement.

A great hole - a river right, and trees left, form a funnel for your tee shot that, if you're good enough to hit the fairway, leaves a second shot to a very long but narrow green, that’s protected by bunkers left and right. The river cuts back across the fairway about twenty yards short of the green, so be careful chipping out or laying up.

Again, a tree lined fairway that drifts from left to right, will leave you with a mid iron approach shot, to a narrow green front, that’s well covered by bunkers. Go long as the green is bigger than it looks and you could finish in a blaze of glory.
