Although Shandon Park is best known for its golf, our snooker section has long shared the same competitive spirit that defines the club. As a founding member of the Belfast & District Golf Club Snooker League, Shandon has been at the heart of local competition since the league’s earliest days. Over the decades, our teams have delivered outstanding success, with the A Team securing 13 league titles between 1977 and 2014 and achieving the coveted league treble on two separate occasions.
The snooker room is rich in history, with photographs and trophies celebrating notable figures such as two-time Northern Ireland Amateur Champion Sammy Pavis, league founder Ivan Martin, and Gavin Greer, who made league history with its first-ever century break.
Even during challenging times, including the temporary loss of our clubhouse following an IRA bombing, the section’s resilience shone through, with the A Team famously winning the league title while playing all matches away from home.
Today, the snooker section remains open and welcoming to all, whether you’re a seasoned competitor or simply enjoy a relaxed frame with friends. Many past and present team members have been golf members too, including former captains and club champions, and the room continues to be a lively hub of social activity. We also hold close the memory of valued teammates who are no longer with us, whose contributions and friendship remain part of the section’s story.
There are two full size snooker tables to avail of, which are pristinely cared for and re-covered every two years.
